Pros: When a crime is committed, if we have a clear enough image of the suspect, we can use AI to quickly help capture the suspect. Spaces can be monitored in real-time and potentially be used to predict future crimes allowing for officers to respond more quickly. This will allow for police departments to more efficiently use their limited resources.
Cons: These algorithms in practice are not perfect and have disproportionally misidentify minority groups as more likely to commit crimes. To train this model, we would need to train it on facial data which brings up privacy issues.
